In a few weeks, the Sustainable Development Goals Reports 2022 will be published! What are SDGs? See below to find out!
What are SDGs: Commonly known as Global Goals, SDGs are a blueprint for achieving a sustainable future. They have been set by the United Nations and call for all countries- poor, middle-income, and rich to promote prosperity while protecting the planet.
When were SDGs adopted: These goals were adopted by world leaders at a historic United Nations (UN) summit in 2015. They officially came into force on 1st January 2016. The idea behind these goals was originally thought of in Rio De Janeiro in 2012 to replace the already existing Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
How many SDGs are there: In all there are 17 SDGs that range from no poverty and clean water to reduced inequalities and partnerships for goals. All these SDGs are interconnected and it is important that none of them are left behind while achieving sustainable development.
When are these SDGs supposed to be achieved: Most of these goals aim to be achieved by 2030. Each country has a duty to follow up and review the process made at the national, regional, and local levels.
